Itinerary: 3 Days Marrakech to Fez
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
Tizi n’Tichka Pass and the Atlas Mountains
We begin our journey early from Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m). This mountain pass offers spectacular panoramic views of dramatic landscapes and traditional Berber villages built with adobe.
Exploring the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah
We stop to visit the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site—an architectural gem of southern Morocco and the filming location for movies like Gladiator and The Mummy. Walking through its cobbled alleys is like stepping back in time.
Ouarzazate and the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs
After lunch, we head to Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert.” You can optionally visit the Atlas Film Studios and the Taourirt Kasbah. We continue along the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, passing through the stunning Valley of Roses and the palm grove of Skoura until we reach the Dades Valley.
Night in the Dades Valley
We stay overnight in a traditional riad or hotel in the Dades Gorges, surrounded by unique rock formations and dramatic gorges. Dinner and rest with warm Berber hospitality.
Day 2: Dades Gorges – Todra Gorges – Merzouga – Camel Ride & Desert Night
Hiking in the Todra Gorges
After breakfast, we continue toward the majestic Todra Gorges, a natural canyon with walls reaching up to 300 meters high. It’s the perfect place for a short walk along the river. This spot is a favorite among climbers and nature lovers.
Arrival in Merzouga Desert and Camel Adventure
We head toward Erfoud and Rissani, gateways to the Merzouga desert. In the afternoon, we arrive at the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes, where camels await to take us on an unforgettable sunset ride across the golden sea of sand.
Berber Dinner and Overnight in Sahara Camp
We spend the night in an authentic Berber nomad camp, enjoying a traditional dinner under the stars and tribal music around the fire. You can choose between standard or luxury tents, both offering an authentic and comfortable desert experience.
Day 3: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Cedar Forest – Fes
Sunrise over the Dunes and Breakfast at Camp
We wake up early to witness the sunrise over the dunes—one of the most magical moments of the trip. After breakfast, we return to the village of Merzouga by camel or 4×4 to continue our journey to Fes.
Scenic Route through the Middle Atlas
The route passes through the spectacular Ziz Valley, an oasis flanked by thousands of date palm trees, before reaching Midelt, where we usually stop for lunch. The journey continues through the cedar forest of Azrou, where you can spot the famous Barbary monkeys in their natural habitat.
