Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
Crossing the High Atlas and Tizi n’Tichka Pass
We depart early from Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), one of the highest mountain passes in Morocco. Along the way, we enjoy stunning landscapes, Berber villages perched on hillsides, and unforgettable photo stops.
Exploring Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah
Our first major stop is the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This adobe architectural gem has been the backdrop for films like Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones.
Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses
After visiting the kasbah, we continue to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Morocco,” home to the famous Atlas Film Studios. The route then follows the Valley of Roses, famed for its natural cosmetic products, until we reach the Dades Valley, where we will spend the night in a charming riad with dinner included.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Merzouga (Sahara Desert)
The Todra Gorges
After breakfast, we travel to the incredible Todra Gorges, a narrow canyon surrounded by rock walls up to 300 meters high. This spot is perfect for walking among the rock formations and admiring the natural beauty.
Whispers of Sand: Heading to Merzouga
We continue toward the Sahara Desert, passing through Erfoud, famous for fossils and its date market, and Rissani, a traditional town that was once the capital of the ancient Tafilalet kingdom.
Camel Ride and Night in the Desert Camp
In Merzouga, we swap the vehicle for camels and embark on a magical journey through the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi at sunset. Upon arriving at the nomad camp, we enjoy a Berber dinner, music by the fire, and a breathtaking star-filled sky. Overnight stays are in traditional tents (standard or luxury, according to preference).
Day 3: Merzouga – Khamlia – Nomads – Oasis – Second Night in the Desert
Sunrise Over the Dunes and Breakfast
We wake up early to watch the unforgettable sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, we begin a cultural tour around Merzouga.
Visit to Khamlia Village and Nomadic Families
We head to Khamlia, where we listen to traditional Gnawa music, then visit Berber nomadic families living in the desert mountains. We share tea and learn about their ancient way of life.
Oasis and Desert Panorama
We visit the Tisserdmin oasis and explore the changing desert landscapes by 4×4. The day ends back at the camp for a second magical night in the heart of the Sahara.
Day 4: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Middle Atlas – Ifrane – Fez
Scenic Route North
After breakfast in the desert, we begin the return journey north. We cross the impressive Ziz Valley, lined with palm groves, and arrive in Midelt, a mountain town in the Middle Atlas.
Cedar Forests and Free-Roaming Monkeys
We pass through the Azrou cedar forest, home to Barbary macaques, where we make a brief stop. Then, we visit Ifrane, known as “Morocco’s Switzerland” for its Alpine architecture and cleanliness.
