Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech – Exploring the Red City
Your adventure begins in the vibrant city of Marrakech, where sounds, colors, and aromas awaken all your senses. After transfer to your riad, you’ll have time to explore the surroundings of the famous Jemaa el-Fna Square, a UNESCO-listed Intangible Cultural Heritage site, and immerse yourself in the bustling souks filled with crafts, spices, and textiles.
In the afternoon, we recommend visiting the Koutoubia Mosque (from outside), the Majorelle Gardens, and enjoying a mint tea on a terrace overlooking the square.
Day 2: Marrakech – Tizi n’Tichka Pass – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
After breakfast, we depart south crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m). Panoramic views and Berber villages accompany us until we reach the legendary Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
We continue to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” and follow the Thousand Kasbahs route to the Dades Valley, where we spend the night in a charming riad.
Day 3: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert
In the morning, we head to the impressive Todra Gorges, a canyon with walls over 300 meters high. This is an ideal place for walks and to admire nature’s grandeur.
We continue towards Merzouga, the heart of the Moroccan Sahara. We hop on camels to cross the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi at sunset and reach the Berber camp, where we dine under a starry sky surrounded by traditional music. Overnight in nomad tents (standard or luxury).
Day 4: Merzouga – Khamlia Village – Nomads Encounter – Oasis – Second Night in the Desert
Desert Adventures Around Merzouga
Our day begins with an exciting 4×4 expedition through the Merzouga region. First stop is Khamlia village, where the rhythmic beats of traditional Gnawa music welcome us to learn about this unique cultural heritage.
The journey continues as we venture deeper into the desert to visit Berber nomad families, gaining insight into their traditional way of life. We then discover the lush Tisserdmin Oasis, a refreshing contrast to the surrounding dunes.
If conditions allow, we’ll visit the seasonal lagoon where pink flamingos gather – a surprising splash of color in the desert landscape. As night falls, we return to camp for another unforgettable evening under the Saharan stars, immersed in peaceful silence and warm Berber hospitality.
Day 5: Merzouga – Rissani – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Cedar Forest – Ifrane – Fez
After breakfast, we leave the desert heading north. We stop in Rissani, a traditional city with an authentic market, and cross the majestic Ziz Valley full of date palm groves.
We ascend the Middle Atlas Mountains to Midelt, then descend to the cedar forest of Azrou, home to Barbary macaques. Our final stop is Ifrane, known as the “Moroccan Switzerland” for its European architecture. We arrive in Fez at sunset.
Day 6: Guided Tour of Fez – Living Heritage and History
Today we explore Fez, one of Morocco’s oldest and most spiritual cities. With a local guide, we discover Fez el-Bali Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its labyrinthine alleys, traditional tanneries, madrasas, and vibrant markets.
We also visit the Karaouine Mosque (one of the world’s oldest universities), the Royal Palace (from outside), and the Andalusian quarter. The afternoon is free to explore more or rest.
Day 7: Fez – Return to Marrakech (Optional Stops in Meknes and Volubilis)
On the last day, we return to Marrakech (approx. 6-7 hours). Optionally, we can stop at:
Meknes, one of the four imperial cities, with its walls, Bab Mansour Gate, and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail.
